Foster designs the largest sustainable building in the world
In 2013, Crystal Island will be built in Moscow,
only 7.5 kilometers from the Kremlin, and will be the world’s largest
sustainable building. It will reach its highest point at 450 meters with
a surface area of 2.5 million square meters, so vast that it has been
defined “a city within a city.” Therefore, it is not so much a building
as a sort of covered city capable of housing 30 thousand residents as
well as shops, hotels (for a total of 3,000 rooms), museums, cinemas, theaters and even an ice-skating rink, all exceptionally
energy-efficient.
