Foster designs the largest sustainable building in the world

In 2013, Crystal Island will be built in Moscow, only 7.5 kilometers from the Kremlin, and will be the world’s largest sustainable building. It will reach its highest point at 450 meters with a surface area of 2.5 million square meters, so vast that it has been defined “a city within a city.”  Therefore, it is not so much a building as a sort of covered city capable of housing 30 thousand residents as well as shops, hotels (for a total of 3,000 rooms), museums, cinemas, theaters and even an ice-skating rink, all exceptionally energy-efficient. 

Incredible structure in 1500 feet (approx. ~ 457 meters) will include about 900 apartments, hotel rooms 3000, inter-ethnic school for 500 students, cinemas, theaters, sports complexes and much more. 16500 will also be parking spaces for underground parking for each guest of the building. Natural ventilation will be achieved through numerous large atrium, located in strategically important locations. Domestic premises will have special windows and built cubicles panel, which will allow daylight to penetrate inside the building. They will manage certain groups of people, specially hired for this purpose.
