After entrance, you take path. Ching says: Path is how you move through building. It's not just corridor, it's experience.
Path configurations: Linear (one direction, like museum), Loop (returns to start, like house around courtyard), Network (many choices, like office), Spiral (upward, like Guggenheim), Composite (combination).
Path quality: Width, height, light, texture change as you move. Narrow dark path to wide bright space feels release. This is called compression and release - Frank Lloyd Wright master.
Example: Egyptian temple: Narrow dark corridor to vast bright hypostyle to small dark sanctuary - compression, release, compression. Emotional journey.
Ching says: Path needs nodes - widenings where you pause, decide, rest. Without nodes, path is just corridor, boring. With nodes, path becomes place. Node can be window seat, bench, view point, courtyard glimpse.
For technical: Path is circulation, fire escape, MEP route. Path width: 90cm min for one person, 150cm for two, 180cm for wheelchair + person. In Egypt code, corridor to stairs must be 120cm min. Always check.
Path and structure: Path often follows structural grid, efficient. But breaking grid for diagonal path creates dynamism.
Instagram: Plan with path as red line, nodes as circles, show compression/release in section. Architects love path diagrams, saves high.
